Welcome! I am a licensed clinical psychologist who uses an integrative approach to help those struggling with anxiety, depression, relationship difficulties, parenting challenges, trauma, and learning differences. I also conduct comprehensive neuropsychological and psychoeducational assessments to clarify what is getting in the way of the individual's academic or social-emotional functioning.

 

I aim to provide highly individualized treatment in a warm and supportive environment. Together, we will work on identifying your individual goals and move towards helping you manage stress, reduce symptoms, and live a more satisfying and fulfilling life.

Dr. barrie krause

Dr. Barrie Krause is a licensed clinical psychologist who provides short-term and long-term psychotherapy to children, adolescents, and adults as well as neuropsychological and psychoeducational testing services.

Dr. Krause graduated summa cum laude from Columbia University's Barnard College. Upon graduating, she conducted research at NY State Psychiatric Institute as well as The McCarton School before pursuing her graduate studies. Dr. Krause went on to earn her masters in School Psychology and a doctorate in School-Clinical Child Psychology from Yeshiva University's Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology. She completed an APA-Accredited Pre-Doctoral internship at the Jewish Child Care Association and her post-doctoral work at the Jewish Board's J.W. Beatman Center.

 

Dr. Krause has worked with individuals struggling with emotional, behavioral, and learning disorders in diverse outpatient, inpatient, and school settings. She has received extensive training utilizing various cognitive behavioral and psychodynamic approaches, including trauma-focused treatment modalities. Additionally, Dr. Krause has in-depth experience conducting comprehensive neuropsychological and psycho-educational assessments, consulting with teachers and school administrators, and supervising doctoral-level students in administering assessments. Dr. Krause's doctoral dissertation focused on the ways in which parenting a child with anxiety and depression relates to family functioning and the co-parenting relationship, in particular.   Dr. Krause provides parenting support and coaching.

In addition to her work in private practice, Dr. Krause is the school psychologist for the SINAI School at SAR Academy in Riverdale.

Dr. Krause conducts psychoeducational and neuropsychological assessments in order to evaluate cognitive, academic, and emotional functioning. In addition to a comprehensive written report, a full evaluation may also include a school-based observation, feedback session, and consultation with other treatment or educational providers.

Psychological testing is utilized to explore an individual’s strengths and weaknesses as a learner. There are different types of evaluations:

  • A neuropsychological evaluation is a comprehensive assessment of cognitive, emotional, and behavioral functioning. This type of evaluation assesses:

    • Intellectual and cognitive abilities

    • Academic skills

    • Specific Learning Disabilities

    • Language-based learning differences

      • Dyslexia

      • Auditory Processing

      • Nonverbal learning

      • Pragmatic language

  • Psycho-educational evaluations are used to assess intellectual and academic strengths and weaknesses within the academic setting and used in academic planning for:

    • Accommodations (Individualized Education Plan (IEP) consultation)

Dr. Krause utilizes a strength-based, collaborative, and individualized approach to best understand the needs of each child. She then develops practical recommendations for school and home. Dr. Krause uses her experience as a school psychologist and her knowledge of children struggling with language-based learning differences, executive functioning deficits, and social-emotional needs to work successfully with families and schools.
